Former US football running back OJ Simpson has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for armed robbery, conspiracy to kidnap and assault with a deadly weapon.

District Judge Jackie Glass, who described Simpson, 61, as arrogant and ignorant, said the evidence was overwhelming.

Simpson made an emotional appeal prior to sentencing at the Las Vegas court, saying he was “sorry” and “confused”.

His accomplice, Clarence Stewart, was also sentenced to 15 years after the two were convicted on 12 charges, reports BBC News. The charges related to the robbery and holding of two sports memorabilia dealers at the Palace Station hotel in Las Vegas in September 2007.

Simpson and Stewart had seized the memorabilia dealers in an attempt to reclaim items linked to the former National Football League star’s sporting career, which Simpson claimed still belonged to him.

Before sentencing, Judge Glass said: “The potential for harm to occur in that room was tremendous.” “You went to the room, you took guns… you used force, you took property… and in this state that amounts to robbery with a deadly weapon,” said the judge.

kids to feed

About sick of hearing where LeBron might be going in two years. You know what would be great? If everyone took into account the people who have invested so much in, I don’t know, watching the next two years of basketball. It’s entirely possible that Cleveland could demolish every team en route to the finals this year. LeBron gets crazy post-season, let’s not forget.

This, however, was the first time that James had entered the building with the locals having legitimate reason to believe their future savior was setting foot in his future home. The game came four nights after the Knicks made two major trades that set the course for the future direction of their franchise, clearing $27 million of salary-cap room for 2010-11 when they traded away Zach Randolph and Jamal Crawford.

One Rule: no rules

Man, this Thai “And 1″ video (called Fireball) is off the huuughh. Just a collection of punches and kicks with the occassional bother of scoring a basket. Note they only have two sound bytes for someone getting hit in the face. They use it probably 1000 times in this trailer.

Calzaghe over jones

Madison Square Garden fans were treated to a very exciting display of the many talents of Joe Calzaghe. He proved he can do just about anything he wants to in the ring and get away with it. He has great reflexes, toughness, speed, volume punching, and ability to read or sense what his opponent is going to do and then react accordingly.

Joe came into the ring looking very relaxed and resplendent in his sequined outfit. Roy looked equally at ease, acknowledging friendly faces in the audience. But, when the action started, it seemed like a replay of the first round in Calzaghe’s fight with Hopkins. This time Joe seemed hurt, though. The knockdown occurred when Roy Jones, Jr. landed a stiff left jab, which concealed the big right to follow. Calzaghe didn’t see the right, and as a result it sent him to the canvas and made for a 10-8 round for Jones. A slow motion replay of the knockdown showed the right was actually Jones’ forearm that landed, and not the glove. Regardless, it caused the desired effect.

Thanks to eastside boxing for the news.
